Recently, the localization upgrade and renovation project of imported gasoline octane number measuring machine and diesel cetane number measuring machine of Sinopec Qilu Petrochemical Company was successfully completed, with the participation of Shanghai Shenkai Petroleum Instrument Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as “Shenkai Instrument”), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Shanghai Shenkai Petroleum & Chemical Equipment Co., Ltd. (SZ002278). This project was organized and led by the Refining Division of Sinopec, and jointly completed by Sinopec Petrochemical Research Institute Co., Ltd., Sinopec Yingke Information Technology Co., Ltd., and Shenkai Instrument. It is a key measure for Sinopec to actively respond to the national energy security strategy and accelerate the process of domestic substitution. The successful completion of this project marks a significant leap from the dependence on imports to the complete localization of China’s core oil product testing technology, which is of milestone significance.

Octane number and cetane number are important technical indicators for measuring the antiknock performance of gasoline and the ignition performance of diesel, and are mandatory inspection items of petroleum products before leaving the factory. At present, imported equipment from the United States is adopted for pre-factory inspection in Sinopec’s refining system. However, the imported equipment has many drawbacks such as high spare parts supply and after-sales service price, long cycle, low automation level, etc. Therefore, domestic substitution is imperative.

As the first equipment manufacturer in China to successfully develop octane and cetane number measuring machines that fully comply with relevant ASTM standards, Shenkai Instrument, along with leaders and expert groups from Sinopec Petrochemical Research Institute Co., Ltd., Sinopec Yingke Information Technology Co., Ltd., was invited to make on-the-spot investigation at Sinopec Qilu Petrochemical Company in December 2023, and thoroughly discuss and demonstrate the feasibility of the project. Shenkai proposed a professional renovation plan on the basis of its extensive user base and years of technical accumulation, gaining recognition from industry experts. 

On-site Communication

In October 2024, Shenkai Instrument completed the domestic renovation of two imported devices and successfully delivered them, with good repeatability and reproducibility of the equipment testing results after more than a month of trial operation. After the renovation, the equipment is superior to the original imported equipment in terms of automation level and operation convenience, winning unanimous praise from customers. On November 26, 2024, the Refining Division of Sinopec took the lead in organizing relevant department leaders and experts to gather at Sinopec Qilu Petrochemical Company to conduct a comprehensive on-site evaluation of the renovation project. The project passed the blind sample data comparison provided by the Sinopec Petrochemical Research Institute Co., Ltd., and the results met the national standard requirements. To this point, the project was successfully accepted.
